About me
My name is Andrea Paukstis. I am a survivor of a Traumatic Brain Injury due to a catastrophic car accident in 1996, when I was in High School. I was in a coma for 45 days and the prognosis of my recovery was very bleak. I did not speak until 92 days later and I suffer from a permanent short-term memory loss; I have balance problems and fall very easily. I can remember daily activities only following routines and with the help of my assistant Joy. I can learn new things with a lot of repetitions.
I do remember my life before the accident. I remember my High School, The Spanish Immersion Program, the AP Classes, the band, teachers, the classmates, sports, the coaches, and specially soccer, the varsity team, Track, the soccer club team and our trip to Denmark and Sweden.
Luckily, I do not remember the accident or the 5 months in three different hospitals: or the eight months of daily outpatient rehabilitation sessions.
I live with my parents in Bellevue, Washington and Medellin, Colombia. In Medellin I started taking painting lessons from German Angel, a professional artist. I have never painted before, and I love painting and enjoy sharing my work with everyone.

Me llamo Andrea Paukstis. Sobreviví un Traumatismo Craneoencefálico (TCE) debido a un accidente automovilístico catastrófico en 1996. Estuve en coma por 45 días y el pronóstico de mi sobrevivencia y recuperación era muy sombrío. No hable por 90 días y sufrí una perdida permanente de memoria a corto plazo. Tengo problemas de equilibrio y sufro caídas con mucha facilidad. Puedo recordar las actividades de vida diaria solo siguiendo rutinas y con la ayuda de mi asistente Joy. Puedo aprender cosas nuevas con muchas repeticiones.
Recuerdo mi vida anterior al accidente. Recuerdo mi escuela secundaria, el programa de inmersión en español, las clases AP, la banda, los maestros, los compañeros de clase, los deportes, especialmente futbol o soccer, los entrenadores, el club de futbol y nuestro viaje a Dinamarca y Suecia.
Afortunadamente, no recuerdo el accidente, ni los 5 meses que permanecí en tres hospitales diferentes, los 8 meses de sesiones diarias de rehabilitación o las múltiples terapias que afronté durante muchos años.
Vivo con mis padres en Bellevue WA y Medellín, Colombia. En Medellín empecé a tomar clases de pintura, por primera vez, con German Ángel, un artista profesional quien me ayudo a descubrir que me encanta pintar y que disfruto compartiendo mi trabajo.
